A 20 year old women has become the first person to whom a court has forbidden to buy or drink alcohol anywhere in England and Wales. Laura Hall has, the dubious honor of being the first woman to be granted a prohibition drinking order for antisocial behavior which prevents her from entering into any bar, pub, club or similar venue with a license .
The order, which will run for two years, Hall is also prohibited from purchasing alcohol in any establishment or shop or drink in public. Now Hall will have to pay a £ 2,500 fine she goes against the ban . Police appealed to the judges after Hall was sentenced for violating an order of antisocial behavior related to drinking. She was convicted of a series of public order offenses and has disobeyed the prohibitions from entering pubs and clubs in her hometown, Bromsgrove, in Worceteshire. According to Sergeant David Roberts, "this is the first order that has a national application." The police requested the court order to avoid ending up in jail . "We want to rehabilitate rather than send her to prison, and I hope the ban will help Laura with her problems," he stated. But Rachel Seabrook, spokesman for the Institute of Alcohol Studies, believes that "most behavior problems we see with alcohol reflect a lack of police and legal authorities. I have no objection in principle but I have doubts about whether it is realistic forcing a person not to have a drink. |
