A Hackney resident living on the City of London"s Windsor Houseestate has been found guilty of benefit fraud after claimingHousing Benefit and Income Support totalling £34,623.71 whilstworking full time for Royal Mail.

Following a joint investigation between the City of LondonCorporation and the Department for Work & Pensions, thedefendant - Jayne Skitini - pleaded guilty at WestminsterMagistrates Court to 8 offences of dishonestly making falserepresentations to obtain benefit, and was sentenced to 8 weeksimprisonment for each offence to run concurrently, suspended for 12months, and was also ordered to carry out 150 hours un-paidwork.

A City of London Corporation spokesman said that benefitfraud is taken very seriously because it diverts vital resourcesfrom other needs within the community. Any instincts of suspectedfraud are rigorously investigated and prosecuted whereappropriate.
