The 20-year-old was a target for a host of top clubs after a fine campaign last season but has penned a new three-year deal and wants to make even more progress under Brian McDermott next season.

He said: "This is very good news for me, I am playing every week and I am happy to stay for at least another year.

"I signed a new contract just a few months ago, and having been offered a new contract again I would be stupid to go elsewhere.

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else and not play, or just sit on the bench, I want to play every Saturday and Reading is the right place for me to do that.

"How we finished the season was incredible and if we can take that into next season it will be a good place to be."
