The annual election of two Sheriffs for the City of London hastaken place today (Thursday 24 June) at Guildhall. The twocandidates, Alderman Fiona Woolf and Richard Sermon, wereelected.The new Sheriffs will be admitted into office on Tuesday 28September ready to preside at the Election of the Lord Mayor onWednesday 29 September.
The office of Sheriff, a pre-requisite to becoming Lord Mayor,is one of the oldest in existence and dates back to the MiddleAges. Biographies of the two newly elected Sheriffs will bepublished when they are admitted into office. |
