City of London Corporation donates £30,000 to Pakistani aidoperation

The City of London Corporation, which acts as the localauthority for the Square Mile has donated £30,000 to help thoseaffected by the recent floods in Pakistan.

It has donated £20,000 to the British Red Cross and £10,000 toRedR.

Over 2.5 million people are believed to have been affected andan estimated 1,500 killed in the worst floods to hit Pakistan in 80years.

Philip Willoughby, Chairman of the Finance Committee at the Cityof London said: "We have all watched the humanitarian disasterunfold in Pakistan and I hope that the donation from the City ofLondon will help relieve some of the suffering there."The City of London Corporation has a history of swift supportfor aid appeals, including those for Darfur, Zimbabwe, Haiti andSouthern Africa. Annually the City donates in excess of £100,000 tosuch appeals.
