At a meeting of the City"s Court of Common Council today(Thursday), a resolution was passed revoking the market byelaws. Inproposing the resolution, Mark Boleat, Markets Chairman, said(read the full speech):"These byelaws have out-lived their usefulness and should berevoked. We do, however, note that at least one of the responses tothe consultation suggested that there might be a need for moremodern byelaws that are relevant to the circumstances in which themarkets operate to-day. We therefore recommend that, after theseout-of-date byelaws have been revoked, a working party should beestablished to see whether such a need exists.""As some Members will know, I had a meeting on Monday with LordGlasman and John Cruddas MP, both of whom are here to-day, and Ispoke to the Porters" leaders this morning. They made a strong casein asking for a further meeting with the City and the LFMA as soonas possible, and they may well have some good points to make. So Ipropose that, once this Resolution is passed to-day, we shoulddelay implementation until we have had that meeting."
