British women's 100m record holder and Commonwealth Games goldmedallist Montell Douglas will launch the City of London"s Olympiccountdown next week at a sporting celebration in the SquareMile.
Douglas, who will represent Team GB at next year"s LondonOlympics, is opening the City of Sport programme on Thursday 12May, 12-2pm at Paternoster Square (near St Paul's Cathedral). DavidWetherill, the Paralympic table tennis player ranked number 2 inthe world, will also be present.
City of Sport is a new calendar of sport and physical activitydesigned specifically for City workers, particularly lower paidand/or inactive individuals. At the launch, taster sessions anddemonstrations will be held for cycling, fencing, urban gym,tennis, basketball, golf, and even Zumba dance will be madeavailable for people in attendance.
City of London Sports Development Officer Carolyn Pipersaid:"London 2012 is all about creating a genuine legacy that willbenefit people all over the UK long after the Games have come to aclose. The City of Sport programme is a great scheme helping toenergise people across the Square Mile, and get them involved insport regardless of ability or experience."
