Following the EU Summit, Stuart Fraser, the Chairman of thePolicy and Resources Committee of the City of London Corporation,said:"The UK Government clearly had a very difficult negotiatingposition to uphold our key national interests at the EuropeanSummit. Their continued firm support for the UK financial servicesindustry and its crucial contribution to jobs and growth not onlyin this country but across the whole 27-member EU is most welcome.

'"Whatever comes of the detailed negotiations to create newarrangements for the management of the eurozone, involving the 17+,the many issues directly affecting the regulation of financialservices across the EU will continue to be a part of the SingleMarket and thus require the full involvement of all 27 countries,including the UK, in any decisions about them.

'"The Government has made clear that it will continue to takeits full part in all these discussions and to maintain and enhancethe Single Market in financial services across ALL 27 EU Membercountries. This is most welcome too."
