Mr. Stuart Fraser - Policy Chairman at the City of LondonCorporation - is travelling to Mumbai and New Delhi this week tostrengthen links with key players in the Indian government andfinancial services sector, and meet with the City of LondonAdvisory Council for India.
India is of vital importance to London and the United Kingdom,and the visit reaffirms the City"s commitment to and support forIndia"s emergence on the global financial stage. Mr. Fraser willmeet with the RBI, SEBI, Ministry of Finance and private sectorcounterparts during his four day visit. Key issues on the agendawill include the RBI"s banking roadmap, infrastructure investmentand the insurance and pensions sector. Mr. Fraser said: "This visit comes at a critical time, not onlyfor the City but for the global economy as a whole. India is agrowing part of the global economy and benefits from the investmentmade by companies from London " and across the globe. Apart fromcreating additional economic activity and generating employment,British investment also helps Indian industries to become morecompetitive. "The City of London is committed to developing what is already avery strong and productive bilateral trade relationship, and tocontinuing to provide economic opportunities for Indian andinternational businesses to prosper. "India and the U.K. share a long and historic relationship andon this visit I hope to further cement that relationship."An important part of the City of London"s work is to helpUK-based firms to access Indian markets, and to promote a genuinelytwo-way exchange of trade and investment in financial andprofessional services. The City of London"s engagement with Indiais guided by the City of London Advisory Council for India anddelivered by City Office in Mumbai. The City of London AdvisoryCouncil is comprised of senior Indian financial sector leaders andprovides a formal structure for engagement with Indian financialservices firms at a senior level, and expert guidance and advice ontheir domestic markets.
